Do you wonder why you injured yourself? Unfortunately, injuries happen but there is no reason that they should keep you on the sideline! Addressing pain early and often will lead to quicker return to the high level you demand of yourself and prevent you from getting injured in the future!
There are two primary reasons we all get injured:
Previous injury
Previous injury is the first and biggest indicator of future injury! Risk of injury is greatest immediately after a previous trauma, 4-5 times the risk, and you can still be at risk for 6 months to 5 years if not addressed! This means it is essential for you to spend time working on the predisposing biomechanical issues specific to you–each week, before an injury, during rehab and after!
Amount of training load
When you sustain an injury, one of the things that must to be addressed is your training load, the amount of training you are doing. This does not mean stopping all together, however. Reducing the frequency (how often) or volume (the amount of time) of your training will allow your body time to recover and repair itself while continuing to remain active.
There is a big difference between “use it or lose it” and “no pain no gain.” Continuing to train through an injury can help you maintain your progress however continuing to push through your pain without addressing your movement dysfunction will ultimately cause more pain, increased inflammation and lead to delayed recovery.
